Dear friends,

When I started Residencias Los Jardines, I started writing a weekly news letter -determined to tell all the good, bad, and the ugly. I knew some readers would be interested in the construction process. I expected others might be interested in the lifestyle of two people who had decided to live outside the box. For others, the adventures of Lita, the parrot and the cat took on an entertainment saga all its own.

Residencias Los Jardines is finished. We periodically have resales and rental availability. Some readers may be interested in this information.

More and more, the content will be dominated by events of our new project, "El Dorado" for short. While the future is always uncertain, I again aim to tell it like it happens -the good, the bad, and the ugly, and that is what follows.

Residencias Los Jardines
Property Management, Rentals, Re-Sales

Rain Water: we're still awaiting that good downpour to test the extent to which we've resolved our initial problems. This has now been about 6 weeks since a heavy rain...

Re-landscaping: we're redoing a small area in front of 114. It had become overgrown with bouganvilla and when trimmed back begged for some work... this involves electrical, plumbing and re-planting...

Swimming Pool: for the rainy season (which isn't this year) the pool has been very well attended...

Jacques Beaulieu was found dead in his bed by a friend around 8pm Saturday night. The ambulance, police, and OIJ attended. He is believed to have died peacefully of natural causes, perhaps a heart attack. Friends and any family are welcome to contact me for whatever happens next.

Market Activity

Sales: three viewings... no follow through.

Rentals: two viewings... no follow through.

Comment: on Monday we had 4 viewings... nothing the rest of the week... and no business from any of the 4.

Our Lives

WEATHER -IT'S REALLY DRY: Actually, this is not a normal rainy season because there is and has been no rain -for a long time... The weather bureau announced the obvious and what everyone already knows... there's been very, very little rain throughout the country and especially in the Central Valley... We're probably heading for a new record in least amount of rain. The garden is dry and we are irrigating full blast.

AGED BEEF: We purchased the meat on June 25; at that time I was told it was 8 days aged... now we have a total of 27 days; on Friday we moved to the "dry aging" process and will wait a week -this will end our the experience. Then we will cut the slabs into suitable sized steaks and test. Lita insisted that we try a NY strip... we did... she was impressed... I'll give it a C+... this is still a work in progress... we'll see.

Hotel Guanamar: The return trip on Sunday was a mistake; I knew it would be but that was our time line. Our friends liked it so much they returned for this weekend, and will return on Tuesday... a much better plan. I was able to work the same deal but not without persistence and doing their job for them. If they lock themselves out of their car at the beach like last time, at least they will know who to go to to open the door lock -the coconut man... obviously... he was very helpful, accepted the challenge, worked on the problem for an hour, solved it... perhaps he moonlights at nights... don't know but he certainly did the job required...

Life Lines and Mail Forwarding Services: I've switch my account from Interlink to Aerocasillas... I was getting concerned that Interlink was losing market share and it was taking a long time to receive things... I had accumulated documents and mail and had no one coming so asked our person to package it and sent it to us. I sent them the new address, and was very specific about how the mail would be sent.. first to Miami and then sent on to San Jose and my account here. Well, the address and account number to San Jose was not included in the address. The package arrived in Miami (we tracked it via FedEx) but didn't know where to go from there. A simple oversight and one which I had tried to ensure didn't happen, did happen. Since the package contained important documents, it was important that track it down and get it here. To Aerocasillas' credit, they did, and supposedly it will arrive today. However, their notifications of tracking are confusing: When I read -"Your package is being prepared for shipping" (great, they've found it and have put it in the flight cargo bin); and then the next message is: "You have received mail" -I think, great, now I go and pick it up at the location of my account... Nope... that message simply said that Miami had the package... obviously, I have to learn the ambiguous notices... and the process used by this service... It's certainly faster than Interlink... and so far, seems to work... I received a text message at 9:10am Saturday and an e-mail saying that the package was ready for pick up at the counter... Had it not been for the mislabeling, the package would have been here in record time.
